Admission
Requirements
Applicants
to SHI must:
- Be
at least 20 years of age at the time of enrollment.
- Have completed at least
two years (60 semester credit hours or 90 quarter credit hours)
from an institution, college or university, accredited by an agency
recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
- Show
a history of academic success and personal life experiences that
would suggest a high rate of success as well as a high likelihood
of completion of the entire program.
- Demonstrate
through written word and a personal interview that they possess
a real passion to learn Traditional Chinese Medicine.
- Demonstrate
through written word and personal interview that they have deep
commitment to the personal and professional growth that is essential
in the development of Professional Masters Level Acupuncturists.
- Demonstrate
through written word and personal interview that they are of high
moral character. SHI reserves the right to conduct a criminal record
background check on applicants since individuals convicted of a
felony or misdemeanor of a violent nature may be prohibited from
practicing Acupuncture in Ohio.
- Demonstrate
proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Students
must be able and willing to give and receive acupuncture needling
since practical instruction in the curriculum requires reciprocal
application of acupuncture techniques.
- Students must
have a current TB test with results sent to the school.
- It
is strongly recommended that students receive Hepatitis B vaccinations
since inexperience with needling can result in cross contamination
between individuals.
Diversity
of Background
While SHI expects
that applicants have taken courses in Human Anatomy & Physiology
or Biology prior to applying, no preference will be give to students
with specific academic majors as long as the applicant demonstrates
a high potential for success in our program and a well rounded educational
experience. SHI does provide all the Human Anatomy and Physiology
courses required as part of its curriculum. SHI values diversity in
background and a depth in life experiences that lead toward mental
and emotional maturity and an understanding of others.
